What is the textbook collection?
The library provides multiple copies of essential, exam-related literature in the textbook collection. It is the best starting point for all major subjects and makes it easier for you to access the key works for your degree program.
The textbook collection is divided between two locations: the Library Center (LC) on Level 3 and the Library for Law (D3), right next to the front desk (law textbook collection).
You can also access many of the textbooks as eBooks. You can find them in the WU Catalog, provided you are logged in to the WU network.
Please note: The University Library does not collect course notes. You can obtain these, for example, at the Facultas Shop.
Borrowing & due dates
As a WU student, you can borrow textbooks as follows:
- Loan period: 6 weeks
- Renewal: for 6 weeks at a time, as long as the book is not reserved by other users
- Maximum loan period: 24 weeks
- Maximum number of books that can be borrowed at one time: 5
- Reservations: allowed if all copies are currently checked out
How do you find textbooks in the WU Catalog?
In the catalog, you can filter specifically for textbook holdings:
- “Textbook Collection LC” (Library Center)
- “Textbook Collection D3” (Library for Law)
For each book, you’ll find:
- the location
- the signature
- current availability
- a link to the eBook, if applicable
How is the textbook collection organized?
The books are freely accessible and organized by topic:
- 100 – Business administration
- 200 – Economics
- 300 – Law (Library D3)
- 400 – Other subjects such as social sciences, mathematics, languages, etc.
Within these subject areas, the books are sorted alphabetically by call number so you can quickly find what you’re looking for.
eBooks and digital access
Many textbooks are available as eBooks.
To access it, you must be on the WU network – either via
- WU Wi-Fi on Campus
- or via VPN if you’re working off campus.
