The plugin is available for Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also need to install the appropriate plugin to be able to use Juris-M with your word processing software. Plugins are available for MS Word and LibreOffice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Information for WU staff<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To install Juris-M on WU work computers, please download the program via the Company Portal in your computer&#8217;s start menu. Updates for the software can be done independently by activating <em>Check for updates&#8230;<\/em> under the tab <em>Help<\/em> in Juris-M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Online synchronisation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to share your references with others or synchronize your reference library to different devices, you will need a free Zotero account, which you can set up on the <a href=\"http:\/\/zotero.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zotero homepage<\/a>. The number of literature references you can save is unlimited, but for attached files (e.g. PDFs), storage space is limited to 300 MB. Additional storage space can be purchased if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To synchronize Juris-M entries with your Zotero account, the data from the extended fields in Juris-M is packaged in a block starting with &#8222;mlzsync&#8220; in the <em>Extra <\/em>field. Please edit this field in the web library only if you know exactly what you are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-blue-background-color has-background\"><strong>Please note<\/strong>: The data of Zotero accounts is processed outside of the European Economic Area (EEA). You can find the current schedule <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/library\/consultation\/library-workshops\/\" target=\"_blank\">on our website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">search_bar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, every Tuesday you have the opportunity to visit the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/library\/consultation\/search-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\">search_bar<\/a> \u2013 no registration necessary! Please note the formal requirements for entering names.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entering names<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Juris-M offers two options for entering names. One-field mode is used for entering the names of organizations, research institutions, or other facilities acting as author or editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For each new author, press the plus button for a new field where you can enter the name of a person or institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can assign roles (author, editor, etc.) by clicking the <em>Author<\/em> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"73\" height=\"22\" class=\"wp-image-2631\" style=\"width: 73px;\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/en_zotero_rollenwahl.png\" alt=\"\"> button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Automatically adding references<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Importing references<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Most databases offer a number of different export options, and Juris-M is compatible with several file formats. In most cases the formats <em>RIS<\/em> or <em>BibTeX<\/em> are available, both of which can be opened directly with Juris-M or imported using <em>File<\/em> \u00bb <em>Import<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Searching via ISBN, DOI or PMID<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Juris-M allows you to search for literature references via pre-existing numeric identifier (ISBN, DOI or PMID) and to import them directly into your database. These plugins can detect how the bibliographic data is formatted based on the webpage address and import it directly into your Juris-M library. Unfortunately, the plugins currently recognize only few legal sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A simple click on the plugin&#8217;s logo creates an entry in Juris-M. The logo itself indicates the type of data the plugin recognizes on the current page. If that&#8217;s not possible, in most cases, a snapshot of the webpage will be stored as a local copy in Juris-M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Managing collections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Zotero allows users to create collections to sort references: Right-click on <em>My Library<\/em> and click on <em>New Collection\u2026<\/em> or click on the file button <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"21\" class=\"wp-image-1150\" style=\"width: 25px;\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Sammlungen-verwalten-Zotero.png\" alt=\"\"> to create a new collection. You can also make subcollections by right-clicking on an existing collection and selecting <em>New Subcollection\u2026<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can simply drag and drop entries from the list onto the collection name to add them to that collection. In the dropdown menu \u201cSaving to\u201d it is possible to select a collection in which the entry should be saved.\" class=\"wp-image-2645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Jurism-save-to-collection.png 419w, https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Jurism-save-to-collection-300x93.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out which collections an entry belongs to, just select the entry and hold down the Ctrl key (on Windows) or the Option key (on Mac).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:3em;padding-right:10rem;padding-bottom:3em;padding-left:10rem\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0682ed28 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lookup\"><em>Library Lookup<\/em> &#8211; your connection to the WU catalog<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have the title data of a document in Juris-M, you can use the <em>Library Lookup<\/em> function to check if the document itself is available to you through the <a href=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/wu-catalog-google-scholar-and-more\/wu-catalog\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/wu-catalog-google-scholar-and-more\/wu-catalog\/\">WU catalog<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting up <em>Library Lookup<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Open Zotero\u2019s settings (Windows: Edit \u00bb Preferences, Mac OS: Zotero \u00bb Preferences).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new window will appear. In that window, select <em>Advanced<\/em> at the top. Then, in the <em>General<\/em> tab, under <em>OpenURL <\/em>in the field <em>Resolver<\/em>, enter the URL https:\/\/openurl.wu.ac.at\/resolve. Now, click the green &#8222;Locate&#8220;-arrow above the record\u2019s information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>From the menu, choose <em>Library Lookup<\/em>. Zotero will open the page of the record in the WU Catalog in a browser window, allowing you direct access to the document, depending on its availability. To access a document online, you need to be connected to the WU network. Juris-M offers a large choice of different styles. Under <em>Tools \u00bb Preferences \u00bb Cite \u00bb Styles<\/em> you can select a style, or use the <em>Get additional styles\u2026<\/em> function to import additional styles. You can click on the <em>Document Preferences<\/em> button <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"145\" height=\"21\" class=\"wp-image-2424\" style=\"width: 145px;\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zotero_document_preferences.png\" alt=\"\"> in the Juris-M toolbar in Word to change these settings later as required. The same applies to spaces before a suffix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Long footnotes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Often, there should be text before or after a reference in the footnote that doesn&#8217;t necessarily have to be directly related to the citation or is simply too long for the <em>prefix <\/em>field. In such cases, you can freely insert text before or after the reference in the footnote. If necessary, use the <em>Suppress Trailing Punctuation<\/em> function for trailing text.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"521\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Jurism_suppress-trailing-punctuation_en-1024x521.png\" alt=\"The function \u201eSuppress Trailing Punctuation\u201c can be activated by selecting it in the editing menu of a reference. If necessary, disable the <em>Keep Sources Sorted<\/em> function to maintain the desired order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the sake of clarity, it can be helpful to use the <em>Classic View<\/em>. Similarly, to make text bold, use &lt;b&gt; &#8230; &lt;\/b&gt;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"605\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/kursiv-juris-m.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/kursiv-juris-m.png 605w, https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/kursiv-juris-m-300x132.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: If you are using an English-language citation style that requires italicized &#8222;signals&#8220; (<em>See, See e.g., Cf.<\/em>,\u2026), you can access a list of the common &#8222;signals&#8220; that are automatically italicized in the prefix field by pressing Ctrl+S (Windows) or Cmd+S (Mac).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inserting secondary citations<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: Generally, secondary citations are best avoided in academic writing and should only be used if it is impossible to obtain the original source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to create a secondary citation in the form of &#8222;Reference 1 2021, as cited in Reference 2 2021,&#8220; where both references appear in the bibliography, you can do it as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insert both references using Juris-M.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the prefix of the second citation, enter the text <em>&#8222;, as cited in &#8222;<\/em>. It&#8217;s important that the prefix starts with a comma; otherwise, in most citation styles, a semicolon will be inserted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If the citation style automatically sorts the references within the citation, disable sorting for this citation. A Juris-M window will appear in which you can enter your changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the <em>Delete <\/em>or <em>Backspace <\/em>keys on your keyboard to delete references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important note<\/strong>: Do not directly edit the gray-highlighted citation text in Word! Modifying a citation text like this will cause Juris-M to stop updating the citation, which can easily lead to incorrect footnote numbering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Updating citations<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When you have edited a reference in Zotero, press the <em>Refresh<\/em> button <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"64\" height=\"21\" class=\"wp-image-1194\" style=\"width: 64px;\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Refresh-Zotero.png\" alt=\"\"> in the Juris-M toolbar to update the reference in your database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating a bibliography<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Juris-M does not automatically create a bibliography. To create a bibliography, place your cursor where you want your bibliography to be inserted and click <em>Add\/Edit Bibliography<\/em> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"71\" height=\"74\" class=\"wp-image-2427\" style=\"width: 71px;\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zotero_insert_bibliography.jpg\" alt=\"\"> in the Juris-M toolbar.
