If you want to work with Citavi during your visit to the library, please bring your own computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citavi is only compatible with the Windows operating system. If you want to use it with a Mac OS X system you will need to set up a virtual Windows environment, for example with <em>Parallels<\/em> or <em>VirtualBox<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Obtaining license data<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible to use the WU license, you need to sign up in the appropriate category with your WU email address <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/citaviweb.citavi.com\/p\/campus?signin=141da0926241bd49b73f813e5dba9a1b&amp;accountKey=qui8h6srtee04j34szzg0e7zid7rm2bper3mworuy#usertype\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. You will then be sent an email with the license information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-blue-background-color has-background\"><strong>Please note<\/strong>: The data provided during registration are processed outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) by QSR International. You can find further information on this <a href=\"https:\/\/lumivero.com\/legal-information\/global-privacy-policy\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/lumivero.com\/legal-information\/global-privacy-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Download the software from the <a href=\"http:\/\/citavi.com\/download\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/citavi.com\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">official Citavi website<\/a> and install it on your Windows-based PC. Please note the formal requirements for entering proper names.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entering names<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Names should be entered directory style, i.e. <em>last name(s)<\/em>, <em>first name(s)<\/em>, so that the program will know how to format them depending on the required context. For more complex names, click on the blue hyperlinked text <em>Author<\/em>. A window will open with spaces for the different components of the author\u2019s name. Then, click on <em>Add contribution<\/em> and enter the information of the chapter you wish to add.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attaching files<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can attach files to each individual entry. To do so, click on the <em>Context<\/em> tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keywords<\/strong> are individual words or short phrases used to describe the contents of each element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Categories<\/strong> are used to group elements that you feel belong together thematically. This could be for example because they all appear in a particular chapter of your work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third option, <strong>groups<\/strong>, is for elements that are not necessarily thematically related but belong together for other, more general reasons. For example, you can make a group of references that you want to delete, or references that you consider particularly important. Groups are not available for use in Word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Searching by ISBN, DOI or PMID<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Citavi allows you to search for literature references by a pre-existing numeric identifier (ISBN, DOI, or PMID) and import them directly into your database. Click on the symbol of the magic wand (ISBN, DOI, PMID) <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"122\" height=\"23\" class=\"wp-image-1077\" style=\"width: 122px;\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Zauberstabsymbol.png\" alt=\"\"> in the Citavi toolbar, enter the identifier, click <em>Add<\/em> then import the title into your project by clicking <em>Add to project<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Importing references<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most databases offer a number of different export options, and Citavi is compatible with several file formats. In most cases the formats <em>RIS<\/em> or <em>BibTeX<\/em> are available, both of which can be opened directly with Citavi or imported using <em>File \u00bb Import\u2026 \u00bb Text file<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using Citavi Picker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Citavi Picker is a browser plug-in that automatically recognizes ISBN and DOI numbers and marks them with a Citavi symbol <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/learn.wu.ac.at\/open\/fit4research\/download\/file\/citavi_icon\">. Click on the symbol to import the reference into your literature database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another feature of the plug-in (<em>Hunter<\/em>) automatically recognizes the metadata embedded in web pages. When it has identified metadata, it will show a message at the bottom of the page with a menu where you can select the titles you want to import.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"22\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/en_citavi_hunter.png\" alt=\"A notification from Citavi Hunter. Click here to import the references.\u201d\" class=\"wp-image-2348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/en_citavi_hunter.png 445w, https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/en_citavi_hunter-300x15.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Knowledge Organizer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Citavi allows users to not only manage bibliographic data but also to collect citations, comments, etc., for each entry and makes them available in Word. Click the tab marked <em>Quotations, Comments<\/em> to add different types of quotes, your own comments, or a summary of the reference information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have attached a PDF file to a reference entry, you can mark text passages in the Citavi PDF viewer and add the marked text as a quotation, summary, or comment. You can also mark images and add them as image citations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Managing citation styles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/cite-and-organize-your-literature\/wu-citation-styles\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/cite-and-organize-your-literature\/wu-citation-styles\/\">Citation styles<\/a> determine how citations in the text and the bibliography are formatted. Citavi offers a large choice of different styles that can be selected and downloaded if necessary under the menu <em>Citation \u00bb Citation style<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a citation style form an external source, save the <em>.ccs<\/em> file on your computer under <em>My Documents\\Citavi 5\\Custom Citation Styles<\/em>. The next time you open Citavi, it will be included in the list of available citation styles. If the style you need is not available, please contact the library at <a href=\"mailto:library@wu.ac.at\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">library@wu.ac.at<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:3em;padding-right:10rem;padding-bottom:3em;padding-left:10rem\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0682ed28 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"resolver\">Link resolver &#8211; your connection to the WU catalog<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have the title data of a document in Citavi, you can use a link resolver to check if the document itself is available to you through the WU library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting up the link resolver<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Citavi, click on the <em>Tools<\/em> menu, then select <em>Options<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new dialog box will appear. On the left, choose <em>RSS \/ OpenUrl<\/em>. Enter the URL https:\/\/openurl.wu.ac.at\/resolve in the <em>OpenURL<\/em> field (or select <em>Wien Wirtschaftsuniversit\u00e4t (WU)<\/em> in the field <em>University or organization<\/em> in Citavi 6). To access a document online, you must be connected to the WU network. Details can be found <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/library\/finding-literature\/access-to-online-resources\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/library\/finding-literature\/access-to-online-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:3em;padding-right:10rem;padding-bottom:3em;padding-left:10rem\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0682ed28 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"word\">Using Citavi in Word<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Citavi automatically installs the plug-ins for both Word and OpenOffice if it detects either of these programs on your PC. Click on <em>Citavi<\/em> in the menu bar to open the Citavi tab, then click on the <em>Citavi pane<\/em> symbol at the top left to open a menu that allows you to select a reference database (project) to assign to your document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have assigned a project database to your document, the Citavi panel will display information on the citations in your document and literature references in your project database.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"346\" height=\"366\" src=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/en_citavi_aufgabenbereich.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2350 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/en_citavi_aufgabenbereich.png 346w, https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/en_citavi_aufgabenbereich-284x300.png 284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inserting references<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>To insert a reference into your text, search for the name of the author or a word in the title in the Citavi panel. Double-click on the title to insert the reference where the cursor is located in your text. Citavi automatically adds the reference to the bibliography or literature list. If the selected citation style requires footnotes, then the footnote with the citation will be automatically inserted. Double-click on a category to select this category as a chapter title. Double-clicking a quotation or comment automatically inserts it into your text, complete with the appropriate citation and bibliography entry.
