However, if you want to dive deep into specific aspects of a topic, you should also explore <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/library\/finding-literature\/databases\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/library\/finding-literature\/databases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the subject databases<\/a> we offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google Scholar is also a great choice if you&#8217;re hunting for articles <a href=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/how-to-find\/a-specific-document-book-article-etc\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/how-to-find\/a-specific-document-book-article-etc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">that you already know by title or author<\/a>. The only way to find out is to use a variety of different search tools and comparing the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the origin of the search results in Google Scholar can be a bit of a mystery, it&#8217;s important to carefully <a href=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/academic-reading-writing\/evaluating-academic-sources\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/fit4research-english\/academic-reading-writing\/evaluating-academic-sources\/\">assess the trustworthiness of each search result<\/a>. The tricky part is that bibliographic data from various sources are often automatically combined, which can lead to incomplete or even incorrect information. For instance, an author&#8217;s name might pop up in many different spellings or abbreviations. How does Google sort results?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you hit Google&#8217;s search button? Not much is known about how Google searches and the criteria it uses to sort its search results. What we do know is that the search results are assessed based on the number of other web pages that link to the page as well as on the perceived importance or influence of those pages. This process relies on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PageRank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PageRank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PageRank algorithm<\/a>. Google Scholar also takes into account how often a document has been cited in other scientific sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, why is this important? If a certain web page is deemed to be of low importance by Google&#8217;s algorithm, it might end up quite far down on the list of results. However, this doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean that it is a low-quality source. This can be a bit tricky, especially when you&#8217;re searching for literature on more obscure subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:3em;padding-right:10rem;padding-bottom:3em;padding-left:10rem\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0682ed28 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cost\">Library links = no paywalls + reliability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes you&#8217;re eager to read an article, but the website hosting it presents you with a paywall. Before you reach for your wallet, make sure that Google Scholar is connected to the WU Library&#8217;s collection using the library link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to set it up: Click on <em>Settings <\/em>in the top left menu of Google Scholar, then select <em>Library links<\/em>. Next, add <em>WU Wien \u2013 Full Text via WU library<\/em>. Just remember to stay connected to the WU network, either by connecting with the Wi-Fi on campus or by using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/it\/services\/network\/vpn\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wu.ac.at\/en\/it\/services\/network\/vpn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VPN-connection<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because Google Scholar&#8217;s data can be incomplete or inconistent, it&#8217;s a good idea to double-check if you can access the article through the University Library&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/databases\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/databases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">databases<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/wu-catalog\/journals\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/library.wu.ac.at\/bib\/fit4research\/index.php\/en\/wu-catalog\/journals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">journals<\/a>. You have two options: you can utilize the quick search, which features a simple search box, or you can opt for the advanced search. On the right, you&#8217;ll find information about how to get your hands on that document. When you see labels like <em>Full Text via WU Library<\/em> alongside your search result, it means you can access the article through WU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that Google Scholar doesn&#8217;t cover all the sources at the University Library.
